BOWDOINHAM — Efforts are under way to design the town’s skate park and so is fundraising — including a raffle that will reward the winning ticket purchaser with $10,000.

The skate park, to be built near Mailly Waterfront Park, will be dedicated to Bowdoinham resident Matthew Parker, who died in 2004 at age 15. Parker was a skateboard enthusiast.

To start the design phase of the project, the town has announced it created a Facebook page — Bowdoinham Community Skatepark Project — to gather public input. To build on the feedback it receives through the Facebook page, the town will hold two design workshops; the first this coming Wednesday and the second on Wednesday, June 6.

Both will start at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, located at 13 School St.

The town will sell raffle tickets for $100 each, but will not sell more than 250 tickets, meaning there will be a 1-in- 250 chance to win $10,000. Ticket sales started May 1.

If fewer than 150 tickets are sold, the prize will be limited to half of the ticket proceeds.

To purchase a ticket, visit the town office or mail a check to 13 School St., Bowdoinham, ME 04008. Checks should be payable to the Town of Bowdoinham with Skatepark Raffle in the memo line. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number. The drawing will be at noon on June 23 during a chicken barbecue at Bowdoinham Community School.

Engraved bricks also available as a skate park fundraiser. For $100, folks can have their name engraved into a brick that will be used for the pathway into the skate park. For $250, they can have a large brick engraved.

According to the release, the town also has several sponsorship opportunities for people who want to donate more than $500. Sponsors will have an area somewhere in the park where their contribution will be recognized. This will likely include a plaque thanking people for their sponsorships and, depending on the level of the donation, recognitions could be worked into other park elements.
