GEORGETOWN — Despite an anticipated Sagadahoc County tax increase of $35,830, Georgetown officials expect the proposed 2012-13 town budget to trigger a slight tax rate decrease.
In total, the proposed Georgetown budget comes in at $4,265,679, a 0.8 percent increase over last year’s budget of $4,230,467.
Most areas of town spending would see slight increases in the proposed budget, made up for largely by cutting the Town Owned Property Management Board’s funding in half from last year’s $100,900 budget.
Under the draft budget, the town also would see a cut of nearly $5,000 from the general government budget, while snow removal and town road costs both are set to increase around $10,000.
The town expects just over $1,000 less in state revenue sharing.

In total, the draft budget will seek to raise $22,598 less than last year, resulting in a slight decrease in the property tax rate from around $7.1 per $1,000 of valuation to around $6.9 per $1,000.
The Board of Selectmen will meet at 5 p.m. today at the town office and will seek to approve a budget for the town warrant by the end of the month in preparation for the annual town meeting on June 16.
