BATH — The 11th annual We Remember observance will begin at noon on Monday, Memorial Day, at the City Park gazebo.
Volunteers will read the names of U.S. service men and women who died serving their country during the past 12 months.
Since its inception 11 years ago, the “We Remember” observance has “honored more than 6,000 heroes, and every year its organizer and chairman, Jack Albis, hopes it will be the last.”
The ceremony will begin at noon with the presentation of the colors and the pledge of allegiance to the nation’s flag. A KC-135 from the Maine 101st Air Refueling Wing will pass overhead, and the names of each U.S. armed forces member who died during the past year will be read, then a bell tolled in their honor.
A rifle salute will follow, and wreaths will be placed at the base of the War Memorial.
The lawn adjacent to the gazebo will be transformed into a field of flags, as one flag will be placed to honor each casualty.
The public is invited, and participation is both welcomed and appreciated.
Following the ceremony, refreshments, including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and beverages, will be provided by local merchants.
