RICHMOND — Richmond police responded to a three vehicle crash Thursday afternoon that occurred near a construction zone on Route 197.
Officer Doug Bellevue handled the crash, which he said was reported at 4:11 p.m. along Route 197 just east of Carding Machine Road. The Maine Department of Transportation is doing work alongside that stretch of road. Bellevue was sitting in a line of traffic and had just started moving through the one open lane when a vehicle hit another still stopped at the tail-end of the line of cars that hadn’t started to move.
Bellevue said a 2011 Subaru Outback driven by Phyllis Gamache-Jensen, 47, of Perry Drive, Dresden; and a 2012 Ford Focus owned by Radon Control Systems Inc., of Freeport and driven by 33-yearold Michael Greve of Western Avenue in Topsham, were both stopped in the line of traffic held up due to the road construction. Ezekiel Woltz, 27, of 41 Hatch St., didn’t realize that traffic was stopped.
Bellevue said that though Woltz made a good correction by turning to the right, he still impacted Gamache-Jensen’s vehicle with his 2002 Honda Civic, the impact of which then pushed her vehicle into Greve.
Woltz was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and was treated and released according to a hospital spokesperson. His 3-year-old daughter was a passenger when the crash occurred but was not injured. No one else was injured and no charges were filed.
Bellevue said MDOT workers did a good job getting emergency vehicles through the construction zone.
