LISBON — A driver and her 8-year-old child were transported to a Lewiston hospital with minor injuries following a head-on collision that occurred in front of the police department entrance along Route 196 Friday afternoon.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:38 p.m. on Lisbon Street. According to Andrea Tapley of the Lisbon Police Department, Officer Darin Estes handled the crash. According to his report, 31-year-old Jessica Garland of 47 Perryman Drive, Brunswick was driving a 2002 Ford Escort west on Route 196 when she reached down to get a falling purse and in the process crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Ford Windstar minivan driven by 30-year-old Jessica Starks of 42 Mad Bulldog Road in Sabattus.

An 8-year-old child was a passenger in the van and was transported along with Starks to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with what appeared to be minor injuries. A hospital spokesperson said Starks was not listed as a patient Tuesday.

Garland had a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old child in her vehicle. Fire Chief Sean Galipeau said the three remaining patients were treated at the scene but refused transport.

Galipeau said firefighters were on scene for about an hour providing scene containment, scene safety, vehicle stabilization and assisted EMS crews with patient care. No extrication was needed. Both vehicles were towed away.

No charges were filed.
