WISCASSET — Wiscasset High School has announced the following members of the Class of 2012 earned the distinction of being the “Top 10 Seniors.” These 10 have the highest cumulative grade point averages in their class. Following school tradition, the seniors are announced in alphabetical order.

James Vincent Andretta: Andretta will major in engineering at the University of Maine in the fall. He is the son of Gail Andretta of Wiscasset and John Andretta Sr. of Bath.

He is the recipient of the Principal’s Award for the Class of 2012. He is a member of the National Honor Society and received academic awards in math, science and foreign languages. He is a three-season athlete (soccer, basketball and baseball) and is a school leader, acting as a vice president of his class, a member of Student Council, and a middle school mentor. Andretta received a scholarship to participate in a wilderness trip through the Chewonki Foundation the summer after his sophomore year.

Kayla Elizabeth Connors: The daughter of Scott and Wendy Connors of Wiscasset, Connors will study business administration at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, N.C.

Connors has been a volunteer for Special Olympics every spring at WHS. She was a Top 10 Sophomore and received numerous academic awards and was one the honor roll each quarter. She was a middle school mentor and a member of the yearbook staff. She is a four-year member of the basketball team and has been a member of the track team. She attends Bath Regional Career and Technical Center in the Culinary Arts Program.

Emma J. Corwin: Corwin is the daughter of Murielle Corwin and Matthew Corwin of Wiscasset. She will attend Wheaton College in Massachusetts where she will major in international business and minor in music performance (piano).

She is a student leader at WHS. She has been secretary and president of her class and is currently president of Student Council. Corwin attended Girls State and received the Senate Award for her contributions. She was selected to attend the Maine Youth Leadership program her sophomore year and returned each year as a counselor.

She is a classical pianist. She is a member of the Bath YMCA gymnastics team and has played on the WHS tennis team. She is a member of the Outing Club and National Honor Society.

Carolyn Jane Footer: The daughter of Donna Footer of Wiscasset and Richard Footer of Bath, Footer will attend Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., in the fall.

She was the recipient of the Mt. Holyoke Book Award her junior year and a Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership participant in 2010.

Her many high school activities have included serving as captain of the basketball, soccer and softball teams. She is currently vice president of the Student Council as well as a member of the Drama Club, National Honor Society and Outing Club. Footer plays the trumpet in the band and is a member of the chorus.

She attended the Chewonki Semester School in 2010.

Abigail Ruth Foster: Foster is the daughter of Gregory and Carolyn Foster of Wiscasset. She will attend Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., where she will study music.

She is the DAR representative for the Class of 2012, attended Dirigo Girls State, and received the Smith College Book Award, the Wells College Good Citizens Award, and the Phi Beta Kapa Academic Achievement Award.

Foster is a member of the chorus and band. She plays both the clarinet and baritone sax in band and jazz band and has been selected for both District Honors Band and Chorus.

Captain of the swim team, Foster also participated on the basketball, soccer and tennis teams. She is treasurer of Student Council, and a member of National Honor Society and the Outing Club.

Devin Paul Grover: Grover, the son of Chet and Michelle Grover of Wiscasset, will attend Thomas College in the fall where he will major in sports management.

He is a familiar face on the court and fields of WHS. He is a four-year member of the baseball, basketball and soccer teams serving as captain of each team his senior year. He was selected as an Academic All-Star of the Mountain Valley Conference and received numerous team awards.

A Top 10 Sophomore, Grover attended Bath Regional Career and Technical Center for two years, earning a first place in the local Skills USA Competition and third place at the state competition. He has been an active volunteer with youth programs at the Wiscasset Community Center and as a member of the Student Council. He has also served as vice president of his class.

Nicole Elisabeth Jewett: Jewett will attend the University of Maine in Augusta to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. She is the daughter of Regina and Mike Jewett of Whitefield.

She is known in the school community for her enthusiasm and good humor. She served as the treasurer of her class, was a member of the Prom Committee, and the Student of the Quarter her junior year. She was the recipient of the Devoted Reader Award. Jewett is the president of the Civil Rights Team and actively involved in the yearly “Diversity Day” event for students and staff.

Jordan Paul Jones: Jones will attend Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J.. He is the son of Pamela and Steven Jones of Wiscasset.

An avid golfer, he earned many distinctions in his sport including 1st Team All State, 1st Team All Conference, and Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year. He has also been a member of the basketball team for four years.

Jones has been a member of the Student Council and received numerous academic awards as well as an Excellence in Art Award.

Steven Michael Smith: Smith is the son of Michael and Beth Smith of Wiscasset.

A Top 10 Sophomore, Smith received Certificates of Academic Achievement each year for being named to the honor roll. He attended the Bath Regional Career and Technical Center for two years in the Carpentry Program. At WHS he was a middle school mentor, a member of the Prom Committee, and a regular helper with the basketball concessions. He was selected as Student of the Quarter his senior year.

He plans to work for his family business.

Michaela Lynne Thibeault: Thibeault is the daughter of Vincent and Sally Thibeault of Wiscasset. She will attend the University of Southern Maine as a biology major.

She was a Top 10 Sophomore and received academic recognition in algebra, English and American history. She also received an Excellence in Art Award.

She was a member of the basketball team and a fouryear member of the varsity track team. She volunteered at Miles Hospital and the Stevens Home.

Wiscasset High School’s 2012 graduation ceremony is planned for June 7 at 7:30 p.m.
