THE HARPSWELL GARDEN CLUB announced this year’s winners of the Arthur C. Clayton Scholarship award at the University of Maine. Patrick Vaillancourt of Van Buren, left and Sara Tryzelaar of Portland, right, received the scholarship awards from club president Suzanne Bushnell during an award ceremony on April 25 in the Fogler Library. Vaillancourt and Truzelaar are honor students, and both hope to open their own horticulturerelated business after graduation. The Clayton Scholarship was established by the Harpswell Garden Club in 1968 and has been awarded each year since that time to honor Arthur C. Clayton, considered to be the first organic gardener in Harpswell.
