PHILADELPHIA – Pinch-hitter Jim Thome hit a home run leading off the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Philadelphia Phillies over the Tampa Bay Rays 7-6 on Saturday after Jonathan Papelbon blew his first save in 18 chances this season.

Juan Pierre and Jimmy Rollins also homered for the Phillies, helping Manager Charlie Manuel earn his 900th career win.

Thome connected off Jake McGee (2-2) for home run No. 609, tying Sammy Sosa for seventh place on baseball’s career list.

Papelbon (2-2) allowed his first earned runs in a save situation this season, giving up two-out RBI singles to Jeff Keppinger and Brooks Conrad.

BLUE JAYS 7, MARLINS 1: Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the ninth and Colby Rasmus had a grand slam later in the inning for Toronto in a win at Miami.

REDS 6, TWINS 0: Johnny Cueto remained unbeaten in June, pitching seven innings and driving in a pair of runs with a squeeze bunt and a bases-loaded groundout at Cincinnati.

The Reds ended their season-high losing streak at four games.

Cueto (9-3) allowed three hits and fanned a season-high nine while improving to 4-0 with a 1.47 ERA in four June starts.

PIRATES 4, TIGERS 1: Brad Lincoln allowed two hits and a run in six innings, and Andrew McCutchen hit a three-run homer for Pittsburgh in a win over visiting Detroit.

Lincoln (4-2) carried a no-hitter through five innings before Ramon Santiago singled to lead off the sixth.

ASTROS 8, INDIANS 1: Rookie Dallas Keuchel pitched a complete game, and J.D. Martinez and Jordan Schafer hit consecutive homers in Houston’s four-run fifth inning, leading the Astros to a win at home.

Keuchel (1-0) allowed six hits and struck out three in his second major-league start.

ROCKIES 11, RANGERS 7: Tyler Colvin and Chris Nelson had consecutive two-out, two-run singles in an early outburst for visiting Colorado, ending Texas’ seven-game winning streak.

CARDINALS 8, ROYALS 2: Matt Holliday went 4 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs, and Allen Craig added a two-run homer and three RBI to lead St. Louis to a win at Kansas City, Mo.

DODGERS 3, ANGELS 1: Chris Capuano outdueled Ervin Santana with seven gritty innings, and the visiting Dodgers ended a four-game losing streak.

NATIONALS 3, ORIOLES 1: Edwin Jackson took a one-hitter into the seventh inning and Adam LaRoche homered for Washington in a win at Baltimore.

YANKEES 4, METS 3: Raul Ibanez tied the game with a three-run homer, and pinch-hitter Eric Chavez hit a go-ahead home run moments later as the Yankees stopped a three-game skid.

WHITE SOX 8, BREWERS 6: Dayan Viciedo homered and drove in four runs, Alex Rios delivered a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning, and Chicago rallied to beat visiting Milwaukee.

GIANTS 9, ATHLETICS 8: Brandon Belt hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, Buster Posey added a two-run drive in the seventh, and San Francisco survived Oakland’s four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth.
