A recent program hosted by People Plus and TRIAD and presented by Paul Caruso, senior manager of security at Fairpoint Communications, enlightened the audience about ways to detect and counteract a variety of ongoing telephone and Internet scams targeting the older population. Examples included the so-called “grandparents’ scam” and the “876 lottery.”

Attendees came away “armed” with important information on how to stop these scams from reaching them, and what to do if someone does make contact asking that money be sent — for any reason.

If you were unable to attend this program and would like to attend a future presentation on this topic or have any questions about this, or any other issues that adversely the safety and security of older residents of the community, please contact Merrymeeting Bay TRIAD at 751-6989, or visit their website, www.merrymeetingbaytriad.org.

We look forward to hearing from you.
