FIREFIGHTERS clean up after a blaze that destroyed a garage Tuesday on McLellan Street in Brunswick. Smoke entered an adjacent home, which did not experience serious damage.

A McLellan Street home sustained minor damage, but an adjacent garage succumbed to a fire Tuesday morning.

Brunswick firefighters responded at 10:17 a.m. to 30 McLellan St. to find a “wellinvolved” fire and heavy smoke in a single-story garage very close to the house, Brunswick Fire Chief Ken Brillant said Tuesday.

The blaze was under control within 30 to 40 minutes, but the garage and the personal belongings it contained were a complete loss, and the home sustained “a little bit of damage” from fire.

“The house was so close (to the garage) that it was full of smoke from the fire and we had to ventilate, but the fire never got into the house,” Brillant said. “(Firefighters) did a good job.”

The Topsham Fire Department assisted at the scene, and Bath firefighters covered the Brunswick station.

The home is owned by Sachiyo Peavy, Brillant said. The residents were home at the time.

No injuries were reported.

Brillant said the cause of the fire will officially be listed as undetermined.
