SANAA, Yemen (AP) — A suicide bomber threw himself into a crowd of Yemeni police cadets leaving their academy today and detonated his explosives, killing and wounding at least 10 people, a security official said.

Ambulances could be seen rushing to the site of the attack in the capital Sanaa.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but Yemen’s branch of al-Qaida frequently stages such bombings. The government is on the offensive against the group, Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, considered the global terrorist movement’s most dangerous offshoot, and last month recaptured several militantheld towns in the country’s south.
