GORHAM (AP) — A Gorham town councilor accused of being drunk when her car hit two parked vehicles in May has pleaded not guilty.

Suzanne Phillips was scheduled to make an initial court appearance today on charges of driving drunk and leaving the scene of an accident, but pleaded not guilty Tuesday in a letter filed in Cumberland County Unified Court by her attorney.

The 36-year-old Phillips was arrested at about 1 a.m. on May 4 after allegedly hitting two parked cars on School Street and driving away.

Phillips’ attorney tells the Portland Press Herald that there is “more than meets the eye” to the case.
