“The GED/diploma students are those who, for one reason or another, left school,” a Merrymeeting Adult Education release states. “The decision to return to adult education is a big step. Juggling classes, family life, employment and often child care and transportation issues, not to mention homework, was a difficult task for each of the graduates.”

The CNA graduates completed a 180-hour course and passed a skills and knowledge test administered by the state of Maine. The graduates are now eligible to work at nursing homes, hospitals and home health agencies, where they can assist patients with activities of daily living and provide bedside care under the supervision of a register nurse.

During the June 12 ceremony, Diana McCain, director of Merrymeeting Adult Education, welcomed those attending and introduced Brad Smith, superintendent of School Administrative District 75, and Paul Perzanoski, superintendent of the Brunswick School Department.

The superintendents welcomed the students, family and friends, congratulated the graduates and spoke about their experiences as it relates to adult education.

McCain also presented teacher recognition awards and recognized several volunteers.

Two students, Sara Myers and Rachel Keeney, spoke.
