Three occupants of a power boat that ran aground Tuesday night off Small Point escaped without injury, and the boat will be salvaged at high tide today.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Maine Marine Patrol received a report that a boat had run aground on an island off Small Point. Marine Patrol Officer Scott Couture responded in a boat from Cundy’s Harbor, Officer Clint Thompson said today.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat also headed to the scene from Coast Guard Sector Northern New England in South Portland.

But because the occupants of the boat, owned by a resident of West Bath who Thompson declined to name, could see a spindle at Small Point, Thompson said, “We were pretty confident they were right on Small Point.”

The Phippsburg Fire Department responded to the area, and by 10:50 p.m. had accounted for all three people, who were uninjured. Fire department personnel then assisted them in getting home, according to Thompson. The incident ended before the Coast Guard arrived.

Thompson did not have specific information about the power boat, but said it would be salvaged later today by the owner or a private company.
