THE FRAME FOR A COMMUNITY BANDSTAND at Mitchell Field in Harpswell takes shape Tuesday. A fundraiser for the project will take place on Aug. 5.

A special garden party fundraiser is on schedule for Aug. 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to benefit to the Harpswell Bandstand now under construction at Mitchell Field.

The event, hosted by Walter and Helen Norton at 126 Skassen Lane, will feature music from the Moose Mountain Jazz Band and food and refreshments from Thymes Two.

Reservations should be made in advance for the benefit. Tickets, which are limited to 125, cost $30 per person.

Fundraising to build an octagonal bandstand at the town-owned property has been under way for four years. When completed, the bandstand will host concerts, art exhibits and other community events when completed.

People also can purchase commemorative bricks that will form the walkways around the structure. Engraving, artwork requirements and donation details for the bricks can be viewed at harpswellbandstand. org.

To make reservations for the garden party fundraiser or for more information, call Bob Modr, chairman of the Bandstand Committee, at 833- 2815. Payment for tickets can be made out to Harpswell Festival Inc., with “Bandstand Fund” on the memo line, and sent to 247 Basin Point Road, Harpswell, ME 04079.
