AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine environmental officials are to consider challenges to a proposed expansion of the Juniper Ridge Landfill in Old Town.
The Board of Environmental Protection takes up the matter today at the Augusta Civic Center. The board is expected to decide whether to uphold an appeal of a state Department of Environmental Protection decision allowing the landfill to expand. The appeal was filed by Ed Spencer of Old Town.
The state-owned landfill accepts residues from wasteto energy facilities, construction and demolition debris and other wastes generated within Maine.
Meanwhile, the Legislature’s Government Oversight Committee is scheduled today to decide whether to review contracts and agreements related to the operation and management of Juniper Ridge. The review would cover contracts between the state and Casella Waste, the contracted operator of Juniper Ridge.
