JIM HOWARD of Priority Real Estate Group reacts to his initial viewing of the John Gable painting he commissioned of the Topsham Fair. Prints of the artwork will be sold to benefit People Plus Center.

Priority Real Estate Group of Topsham has commissioned a painting from local artist Jack Gable of Bath to help People Plus raise money for its programs and events that support seniors and youth in the Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell area.

Priority Real Estate Group CEO/President Jim Howard requested that the painting depict the Topsham Fair during the era of the 1930s to 1940s. The finished product is an acrylic on canvas that measures 34 inches by 52 inches. The original will be on display at the Topsham Municipal Building beginning in late July and all of August.

Artist John Gable really did his research and has included many iconic Topsham items in the painting like the American Legion Post 202 sign, an image of long-time police chief Frank Carver, an image of the original gazebo and Captain Mack’s tent.

There are many more Topsham bits of history to be discovered in the painting when you see it for yourself.

A giclee’ print of the “The Topsham Fair — 1854-2012” will also be displayed at the actual Topsham Fair during the week of Aug. 7 to 12 at the People Plus booth.

Numbered prints will be available for sale at that time and can be purchased for $75. (People Plus members pay $50, so bring a membership card or register to become a member there.)

People Plus will also have a painting on display at its Center at 35 Union Street in Brunswick.

This is the third painting that Gable has produced which has been used to benefit People Plus through the sale of prints and notecards. These sales have brought in hundreds of dollars for the nonprofit organization and are made possible by Jim Howard with Priority Real Estate Group.
