GARDINER — Maine Technology Institute recently welcomed Vanessa Frey and Catherine Marine as new team members to work with the Business Innovation Program team specifically with development loans.

According to a news release, they will focus on sourcing investment opportunities, organizing the due diligence and evaluation process and advising and monitoring companies in the Business Innovation Program with emphasis on the development loan portfolio.

Development loans are direct investments in companies that have high potential to pioneer Maine’s future through their technology innovations in any of Maine’s seven targeted technology sectors. Development loan recipients are companies undertaking research and development of new products, services and processes that will enable them to grow and remain competitive in the global marketplace.

Frey joined MTI from Boston where her career spanned the nonprofit and private sectors, including management consulting at McKinsey & Company and developing strategic partnerships for the Boston-based tech company Gazelle.com. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA and master of public policy from the University of Michigan.

She lives in Brunswick.

Marine joined MTI with more than 25 years of combined experience in universi- ty research, manufacturing engineering, and finance. Prior to relocating to Camden in 2007, Marine was manager, Corporate Business Development at Ford Motor Co. in Michigan. She earned an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University and a graduate degree in industrial engineering and management science from Northwestern University. In 1999, Marine received her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with a focus on economics, strategy, and entrepreneurship.

“We are very happy to have both Vanessa and Catherine joining our team,” said Joe Migliaccio, interim president of MTI and manager of the Business Innovation Program. “They both bring a wealth of experience and are already making a strong contribution to MTI as we work with businesses across the state to fund their technologies and help them grow new revenues, commercialize their products and processes and add jobs for Maine.”

Maine Technology Institute is a publicly funded, industryled, nonprofit corporation that offers coaching, networking and funding in the form of competitive grants, loans and equity investment to help grow technology-intensive companies and generate highquality jobs across Maine.
