BRUNSWICK — Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber will present a special meet and greet luncheon with Maine’s congressional candidates for House and Senate on Tuesday at the Inn at Brunswick Station from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. This event is open to the public, but RSVPs are required.

“The purpose of this event is to provide our members and guests access to the federal candidates who are asking them for their vote this November,” an organizer for the event stated in a news release. All of the candidates on the 2012 ballot have been invited, and include independent and Green Party candidates.

The chamber does not support negative advertising and will not endorse any candidate for elected office, municipal, state or federal, the news release continues. Instead, the aim is to provide a forum where citizens can meet the incumbents and candidates, educate themselves on issues important to them, and then make a well-informed decision in the voting booth.

The luncheon is sponsored by Border Trust Bank. Each political hopeful will have a table with party literature and staffers to provide information, beginning at 10:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., there will be a sit-down lunch, and at noon, each candidate will have five minutes to tell the audience why they should be elected. There will not be a debate at this forum.

At approximately 1 p.m., opportunities to meet and greet the candidates will again be provided until 2 p.m.

The cost is $18 for Chamber members and their guests and includes lunch, and $25 for nonmembers.
