Maine voters may have more than two choices when they vote for president in November.
Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson announced Monday that his campaign had achieved ballot access in Maine. The campaign submitted 4,300 signatures, which if verified, would allow the former governor of New Mexico to be on the ballot.
Johnson is billed as one of the nation’s most strident fiscal conservatives. His campaign champions his 750 vetoes while he was governor from 1995 to 2003. In a press release, Johnson is described as an "unwavering crusader for fiscal responsibility, free enterprise and individual freedoms."
Johnson’s platform is reminiscent of Republican Ron Paul. However, it remains to be seen if Paul supporters will back Johnson after Mitt Romney becomes the Republican presidential nominee later this month.
