PORTLAND — KeyBank recently announced that it has launched a management training and development program in Maine for individuals interested in pursuing careers in banking leadership.

According to a news release, the goal of the Management Associate Program is to attract, develop and retain a talented and diverse pool of associates to build Key’s banking leadership pipeline.

KeyBank’s Maine district has hired five management associates for the 11- month program, which includes networking opportunities, case reviews and rotational assignments through branch positions (teller, client service manager and relationship manager), as well as obtaining licensing to sell investment products.

“While we often hear people complaining about Maine’s inability to retain recent college graduates, we have decided to stop talking and do something about it by giving them an opportunity to work and grow into management positions at Key,” said Sterling Kozlowski, president, Maine District. “We hope over the years with this program we will continue to build a talented and dedicated leadership team for the Maine District of Key well into the future.”

Key started the program nationally in 2009 with 21 trainees in five districts, and has continued to grow and evolve the program every year to its current state of 35 trainees in seven districts, including Ohio, Indiana, New York, Colorado, Oregon, Washington and Maine.

Recruiting for Maine’s retail management associates took place at campus career fairs followed by on-campus interviews. Requirements include a B.A. or B.S. degree with coursework in liberal arts, marketing or business administration; relevant work experience; skills in leadership, communication, sales and relationship-building and U.S. citizenship.

The current associates class will receive job assignments when they complete the program in April. Once hired into positions, associates alumni continue to receive training, development and networking opportunities.

“People are our greatest assets at Key,” said Kozlowski. “This is one of many training programs in place to prepare our employees to provide our clients with the best possible experience at Key.”

The five current enrollees in Maine are Gregory Cox, Bryna Herrick, Nathan Kinney, Cassandra Lang and Ben Rosser.
