Boothbay Railway Village on Route 27 boasts many fine sights in a rural village setting, including gardens and village green surrounded by historic structures such as the 1847 Town Hall and 1923 Spruce Point Chapel. The 28 exhibit buildings include all aspects of rural town life, according to BRV promotional materials. Among its unique offerings is a model train building. According to volunteer Ron Spinney of Southport, the model train exhibit is not based on a particular town, but it what his groups calls “generic Maine in the 1950s and ’60s.” Work on the layout of the building has been done by volunteers over the last five-plus years. Spinney notes his group of model train enthusiasts has four or five regular volunteers. He’s been interested in trains “since I was a kid. It’s the typical answer for any model railroader that’s at all serious,” he said. For information on Boothbay Railway Village, call 633-4727 or visit www.RailwayVillage.org. The organization is always looking for volunteers.
