BANGOR — U.S. Senator Susan Collins says Maine will get a $4 million federal grant to help improve transportation around Acadia National Park and ferry service to an island community.

About $3 million will be invested in the Acadia Gateway Welcome Center and Intermodal Passenger Facility in Trenton. Another $1 million will help fund the design of a ferry to replace the Margaret Chase Smith which runs between Isleboro and Lincolnville.

Collins said Monday that the investment will encourage visitors to use the Island Explorer bus system, reducing traffic congestion in the park.
