SOMERSWORTH, N.H. — New Hampshire police say a 3-year-old girl is being treated for injuries suffered when a tombstone toppled onto her and pinned her legs.

Somersworth Police Capt. Russell Timmons says it took two police officers and a firefighter to lift the stone, freeing the girl late Wednesday morning.

Timmons says the girl was in the Forest Glade Cemetery with a day care group, and was playing hide-and-seek with several of the children.

The captain said the weight of two children hiding behind the large grave marker apparently dislodged it as the 3-year-old approached.

The child was transported to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Timmons said he does know the extent of her injuries.

Police say they are withholding the child’s name until they are certain her parents have been notified.
