PORTLAND — Power outages due to Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of classes today at Hall Elementary School, Casco Bay High School and Portland Arts and Technology High School, but all other public schools are open for normal hours, the city announced this morning.

While the storm forced a few street closures Monday night, all streets are now open, according to City Hall spokeswoman Nicole Clegg. About 1,300 power outages remained as of 9:30 a.m., she said, mostly in the Riverton and waterfront areas and on Peaks Island.

Department of Public Services crews were out assessing the storm’s damage and clearing debris, but “we’re in pretty good shape,” Clegg said.

The Portland International Jetport reported flights to Baltimore, New York City, Newark, Philadelphia, Toronto and Washington, D.C., were cancelled today. Scheduled flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago and Detroit were expected to depart on time.

Regular service to all cities is expected to resume Wednesday, and travelers should check with their airlines for more information, the jetport said.
