PHIPPSBURG — Delbert “Jack” Percy, age 83, a retired Marblehead, Mass., police lieutenant-inspector and a retired Maine lobsterman, died at home on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, surrounded by his relatives.

He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Arlington, Mass., to the late Minot and Ilene Neas Percy. He attended grade school in the Popham Beach Schoolhouse and Morse High School and graduated from Marblehead, Mass., High School. Jack served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a T/SGT, and an aerial photographer. On Nov. 15, 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Hubbard of Marblehead, Mass.

Jack graduated from North Shore College and Massachusetts Police Academy. He furthered his training in police science by attending various FBI courses as well as Yale University, specializing in community relations.

When Jack retired from the police department, he returned to his avocation, lobstering. He passed on his love of the sea to his sons, as well. He was a member of the Maine Lobster Association, the Masons and the Shriners, the American Legion, the Popham Beach Boat Owners Association as well as other civic associations.

Jack is survived by his wife, Pat; his son and his wife, Jackson and Meg; his son, Carlton, Phippsburg; his son and his wife, Douglas and Kristin, Marblehead, Mass.; grandchildren Hope, Hannah and Leila Percy, Rockland, ME; Alexandra Percy, Boston, Mass.; Kathryn Rose and George Percy, Marblehead, Mass.; Jackson (Jake) Percy, Phippsburg, ME; one brother, Thomas, two sisters, Alice Kolczynski and Carole Pope, all of Phippsburg, ME. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Minot; and a sister, Ilene; and a son, Charles (Charlie) Percy.

Funeral services for Delbert J. Percy will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Small Point Baptist Church, Main Road, Phippsburg, ME, Rte. 209. Pastor Dan Coffin will officiate. A gathering will be held after the service at Popham Beach Club for friends, neighbors and relatives.
