BRUNSWICK — Bryce Bayer, inventor of the Bayer Filter, a color filter array, was the first recipient of the newly created Camera Origination and Imaging Medal Award presented recently by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

The filter is a core technology incorporated into nearly every digital camera and camera phone on the market today, a news release said. The advent of progressive capture and file based workflows has allowed the Bayer Filter to thrive in current digital cameras for motion pictures and television.
