PORTLAND — Geothermal energy systems have the potential to power, heat and cool homes and businesses across Maine. On Thursday, Dec. 13, the Environmental and Energy Technology Council of Maine (E2Tech) will hold a forum that will walk attendees through the design, installation and operation of cost-effective geothermal systems in Maine, describe the types of systems, advise on financial incentives and payback scenarios, and explain the benefits of and barriers to their use.

The event will take place at the Wishcamper Center on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine. A networking breakfast will run from 7:15 to 8 a.m., with the presentation and discussion starting at 8 a.m.

The panelists include Martin Orio, president, New England Geothermal Professional Association; Tim Weber, commercial manager, NextEnergy USA; Bill Morgner, president/ co-owner, Mid-Coast Energy Systems; and Paul Bradbury, airport director, Portland International Jetport.
