VLADIMIR SHUPER

FREEPORT — Brown Goldsmiths recently announced the return of Vladimir Shuper to its staff.

Originally from Moscow, Russia, Shuper graduated in 1979 with a degree in railroad engineering. His subsequent apprenticeship in goldsmithing led to a lifelong jewelry career. In 1991, he and his family relocated to Portland, Maine, earning U.S. citizenship in 1997. In 1992, Shuper joined Brown Goldsmiths’ workshop staff, assuming a key role as part of the workshop staff and design team. He worked with Brown Goldsmiths until 2010.

Shuper spent the past two years making and developing jewelry using special techniques such as Mokume Gane, a technique that “marries” different metals in layers that are subsequently rolled, folded, twisted and relayered, creating a woodgrain appearance.

He recently returned to Brown Goldsmiths’ team of custom goldsmiths and designers in Freeport’s old Masonic hall at 11 Mechanic St.
