BRUNSWICK — Barbara Blackstone Anguish, 80, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully and quietly on March 10, 2013 after a long illness. Born on December 17, 1932 in Caribou, ME, Barbara graduated from Caribou High School and Aroostook State Teachers College (now the University of Maine at Presque Isle).

She taught in elementary classrooms in Brunswick and Caribou before becoming a missionary to Pakistan, serving four years as a teacher in a missionary school. While in Pakistan, she met her future husband, John Anguish, serving in the US Air Force. They married on April 13, 1968 and lived in Oregon and Massachusetts until John retired from military service.

Upon John’s ordination as a minister in the Church of the Nazarene, they served churches in Rome, NY, Bingham, Strong, and Eliot, ME, where Barbara taught children, ministered to the sick and elderly and demonstrated compassion for all of God’s children.

Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Alice (Thomas) Blackstone formerly of Caribou and Brunswick, a nephew Scott Blackstone of Winthrop, a sister Ruth Chamberland of Topsham and a brother Vernon Blackstone of Caribou.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, John Anguish, a brother Roger and his wife Cathy Blackstone of Winthrop, and sisters, Earlyne Blackstone, Joyce and her husband Robert Churchill and Phyllis Blackstone of Biddeford, Fort Fairfield and Caribou respectively as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family appreciates the loving care given to Barbara by the staff of the Freeport Nursing Home during her residence there.

Visiting hours will be held from 3-6PM on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011. A service of committal will be held at 1PM on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. A celebration of life service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Brunswick Church of the Nazarene, McKeen Street Brunswick. April 13 will mark the 45th anniversary of Barbara and John’s life together.

In lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Maine, 431 Campground Road, Livermore Falls, ME 04254.
