AUBURN — Mechanics Savings Bank has donated $6,000 to the United Way of Androscoggin County, $1,000 to United Way of Greater Portland, and $1,000 to the United Way of Mid Coast Maine.

United Way works to bring people and resources together by partnering with local businesses, government entities and local nonprofit organizations. United Way funds a number of local programs that focus on early childhood education, meeting basic needs, personal and community safety, and building self-sufficiency and independence.

“Companies, like Mechanics Savings Bank, that care so deeply about the welfare of people here in our local community make our work possible,” said Joleen Bedard, executive director of United Way. “In addition to the recent donation, Mechanics Savings Bank and its employees continue to run a successful fundraising campaign for United Way’s Community Care Fund year after year.

“And it doesn’t stop there,” Bedard continued. “Mechanics employees contribute countless hours volunteering on our board of directors, Campaign Cabinet, Community Impact and Investment councils and community events. We are proud to partner with Mechanics Savings Bank in making our community a better place.”

Mechanics Savings Bank was founded in 1875, as a mutual savings bank in Auburn. Branches are located in Auburn, Brunswick, Lewiston and Windham.
