BRUNSWICK — Richard Harvey Coombs, age 75, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at his home.

He was born November 15, 1937 in Brunswick, a son of Harvey and Margaret Cahill Coombs. He attended Brunswick schools. He lived with his significant other, Judy Frey, for 27 years.

He was employed as a mason tender, carpenter, also delivering for the Times Record, and even clammed. He really enjoyed talking with friends and family. He had a great memory, especially for jokes he liked to tell. He enjoyed antiques, yard sales, gardening, and his trips to the junk yard with his son Denny.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Jackie Skelton, Joyce Pulsifer; two brothers, Keith Coombs, Winfield Coombs; a granddaughter, Kayla Basante.

He is survived by Judy Frey; three sons, Denny Frey and his wife Michele of Topsham, who took care of him and his medical needs for the past years, Gene Frey of Brunswick, Johnny Frey of Brunswick; a daughter, Rebecca Basante and her husband Bill of Lake Worth, Fl; seven sisters, Gloria Lamonica of Ft. Lauderdale, Helen Vigliota and Georgia White of Topsham, Judy Iler of Lewiston, Betty Nelson and her husband Hollis of Nobleboro, Shirley Larrabee and her husband Ed of Knox, ME, Mona Lacasse and her husband Louie of Billerica, MA; two brothers, Dana Coombs and his wife Paulette of Easton Robert Coombs and his wife Josephine of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Joshua Basante, John Frey, Troy Frey, Brianna Frey (his spider legs), Steven Frey; many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family can visit 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Bracket Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home 10 AM Saturday, March 16, 2013. The family would like to thank CHANS Hospice, especially Amanda, for the care that Richard received. A spring interment will be scheduled for a later date in New Meadows Cemetery.
