FREEPORT — Paul N. Roy, age 90, passed peacefully on March 16, 2013 in Freeport at Freeport Nursing Home. Paul was born on February 25, 1923 in Brunswick, Me, son to Lucia (Tremblay) and William Roy.

He is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Lucien and Wilfred, sisters, Germaine, Lucille and Cecile.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 52 years, Phyllis Allen Roy, son Randell, and wife Kathryn (Bly) Roy of Freeport, stepson Ray and wife Louise (Carmichael) Sylvester of No Fort Myers Fl, sisters Cora Patterson of Gouldsboro, Loretta Dirck and husband Robert of Bridgeton and Georgette York of Yarmouth, Grandchildren Robin Sylvester, Joshua Roy and wife Gillian, Emilie Roy, and Rebekah Roy.

Paul entered the Navy in 1942 and served on USS LST 457, 458 and 46 during WW2. Paul was awarded an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon along with 3 Bronze Medals and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Upon returning from the service Paul lived in Topsham. He married Phyllis Allen Sylvester in June of 1960 and moved to Freeport. He worked at Bath Iron Works and later for the State of Maine, retiring to Flying Point in 1985. Paul loved working in his gardens, growing pumpkins for his grandchildren and entertaining friends and family with clams he had just dug from Brickyard Cove. In 2010, Paul was awarded his 50 year membership in the J Arthur Stowell, American Legion Post #83.

Visiting hours will be held from 2:00PM to 3:00PM, Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, where a funeral service with military honors will follow at 3:00PM. Burial in Grove Cemetery, Freeport, ME will be held in the spring.
