BRUNSWICK — The Pejepscot Historical Society recently announced its five newest trustees, elected by the society’s membership at its annual meeting in January, where the society also celebrated its 125th anniversary of service to Brunswick, Harpswell and Topsham (1888-2013).

The new members are Ann Frey, Spike Haible, Rob Jarratt, Benet Pols and Dana Smith.

— Ann Frey, a longtime volunteer at Pejepscot Historical Society, worked for 25 years at the Export- Import Bank of the United States in Washington, D.C., retiring as deputy vice president for public affairs.

Frey was elected treasurer of Pejepscot Historical Society for 2013. She also serves on the board of People Plus, where she is board secretary, is treasurer of the Brunswick Republican Town Committee, and is a lunchtime mentor in a program of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick.

She holds a B.A. from Bates College and did graduate work at George Washington University.

— Spike Haible of Harpswell is a broker and Realtor with Century 21 Baribeau Agency in Brunswick.

He served as executive director of the Harpswell Heritage Trust from 2001 to 2006 and was a private and commercial pilot from 1983 to 1993. Spike has served on the Merrymeeting Board of Realtors, the Brunswick Topsham Land Trust, the Trout Unlimited Merrymeeting Bay Chapter, Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue, and Harpswell’s Solid Waste Committee.

He is a member of Bowdoin College’s class of 1976.

— Rob Jarratt of Brunswick most recently served as volunteer and intern coordinator for the Angus King for U.S. Senate campaign.

From 1995 to 2007, he was director of marketing and development for the Maine State Music Theatre. Prior to that he was manager of corporate sales at L.L. Bean, and owner and operator of The Good Sports in Brunswick (1974-1986).

A graduate of Bowdoin College and the American Institute of Foreign Trade, Rob also served in the U.S. Army. He has served on the Brunswick Town Council, Brunswick Planning Board, Friends of Curtis Memorial Library, Brunswick Recycling Committee, Brunswick Area Arts & Cultural Alliance (founder and first co-chairman), Maine Tourism Commission, Brunswick Downtown Association, Brunswick Local Redevelopment Authority Committee, and Access Health Advisory Board.

— Benet Pols grew up in Brunswick and has served on the Brunswick Town Council since 2008.

He holds a B.A. from Middlebury College and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. An attorney who worked with small businesses and individuals in Brunswick and surrounding communities for many years, he has served on Brunswick’s Conservation Commission and Planning Board and on Bath’s Zoning Board of Appeals. He has also served as a coach for the Brunswick Youth Soccer League.

Benet and his wife, Beth, a teacher at Woolwich Central School, have three children.

— Dana Smith moved to Brunswick in 1976 to attend Bowdoin College.

He has owned Coastal Carpentry Inc. for 30 years and Smith Boatyard on Mere Point for the past 15 years.

He and wife, Bettina Otte Smith, live on Raymond Road with their two children.

The new Pejepscot Historical Society officers for 2013 are: Carolyn Earnest, president; Cathy Leonard, first vice president; David Millar, second vice president; Elisabeth Doucett, secretary; and Ann Frey, treasurer. Past president is Marnee Small.
