Orr’s Island — Joseph Edgar Wilson, 46, of Orr’s Island, Me and Fort Lauderdale , FL, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Mid Coast Hospital, Brunswick.

He was born in Brunswick, April 30, 1966, a son of Edgar and Leneler (Moody) Wilson. He graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in 1984.

At the age of 14 he began what would end up being a life long career in the restaurant business, working first as a dishwasher and quickly moving up to cook. In 1990, Joe and a group of life long friends traveled to Florida to spend the winter. Joe’s “winter” lasted for the next 17 years. In 2006 he returned to Maine to help care for his niece, Arianna and nephew, Cameron.

Joe had a love of music, reading, spending time with his many friends and family and was a lifelong, diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was predeceased by his father in 1990, a sister, Sharon Bishop in 1992, and a brother, David Wilson in 2005.

Survivors include his mother of Orr’s Island ; two brothers, Brian McGowen and his wife Rhonda of Richmond, and Donald McGowen and his wife Donna of Brunswick, as well as many nieces, nephews and close friends.

“If I leave here tomorrow

Would you still remember me?

For I must be traveling on, now,

’Cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see.”

A public memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
