PORTLAND — On Saturday, April 27, Hardy Girls Healthy Women will host its Girls Unlimited Conference in Portland for the first time ever as part of its efforts to expand programming to southern Maine.

The conference, which sold out in record time when Hardy Girls Healthy Women hosted it in Waterville two weeks ago, is developed and delivered by high school girls for girls in fourth to eighth grade. The theme of the conference is girls’ leadership and activism, and presenters will cover topics including media literacy and pop culture, body image, financial literacy, and global girl issues.

“The Girls Unlimited Conference is one of the only times each year that girls in Maine can come together, experience a safe space, meet girls from other schools, and learn about issues that they’ve told us are important in their lives,” said Hardy Girls’ vice president of Programs, Jackie Dupont, who organizes the conference.

Organizers expect that more than 100 girls will register for the conference, which will be hosted at the Wishcamper Building at the University of Southern Maine Portland campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The cost to register is $25. Registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, a T-shirt, and takeaways. Scholarships are available. For more information and to register, call 861-8131 or visit www.hghw.org.

The Girls Unlimited Conference is sponsored by The Bank of Maine, Unum, and Maddy Corson.
