WOOLWICH — John Edward “Ted” Brill, 85, of Woolwich died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at his home after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Norwood, PA, on Jan. 9, 1928 to Clark and Estelle Brill, and lived in the greater Philadelphia area (Glenolden, Morton, Frederick) before bringing his family to Maine in 1972. Brill, founder of the JG Brill (Trolley)Co. He was a self-taught portrait artist who sold works on commission and through art galleries in PA, NJ, and Maine. In addition to his love of classical music and strong faith in God, he was a passionate boating enthusiast, culminating in his constructing a 40′ Stadel-designed sloop using Fer-a-lite method with his daughter, Debra, over several years in the early 80’s. He loved animals of all kinds, and volunteered time later in his life to assist an animal rescue and welfare facility near his home in Shamong. Ted is predeceased by his brother, Clark, and survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth Timmons Brill; his children Stephen Brill and his wife Kathy (Spano) of Wales, Maine; Kenneth Brill and his wife Kathy (Harris) of Bath; Nancy Carleton of Woolwich; Debra Brill of Woolwich; grandchildren Andrea Helm, Jennifer Hinds, Kristina Lambert, Brandon Carleton, Daniel Carleton, Lauren Glancy, Amanda Brill and Emily Brill; great-grandchildren Adelaide Hinds and Arianna Carleton; sisters Patricia Strang (NJ), Edith Cambridge (NJ), and Nancy Gorman (PA).
