PORTLAND – Pier 1 Imports is returning to the Portland area, with a new store expected to open in about four months.
The home goods and furnishings store will be moving into the Maine Mall, with the new location likely to open early this fall, said Chrissy Madison, a public relations coordinator for the Texas-based company.

Pier 1 Imports operated a store on Forest Avenue until 2005. It currently has a store in Augusta.
Madison said the company decided to open a store in the mall as part of a routine review of new and existing markets.
The company recently posted a job opening online for a store manager, but Madison did not say how many people the store will employ.
She said more information will be available about the store closer to the opening date.
