SOUTH PORTLAND – Longtime assistant and junior varsity coach Lynne Hasson will be the new girls’ varsity basketball coach at South Portland High.

Hasson teaches at Memorial Middle School.

“She’s had opportunities previously to accept varsity positions elsewhere,” SPHS Athletic Director Todd Livingston said. “Lynne is a life-long South Portland resident, an alumni. She played South Portland basketball and in her heart I think she was hoping one day she would have an opportunity to be the varsity coach at this program.”

Hasson’s hiring is pending school board approval, Livingston said.

Hasson will replace Mike Giordano, who resigned earlier this spring after 17 years. Giordano compiled a 206-124 record. South Portland qualified for its 13th straight Class A tournament this past season.

Giordano said at the time he resigned due to unfavorable reviews in a year-end survey conducted by Livingston.
