ORR’S ISLAND — Robert Whitney Lyman, age 87, died June 23, 2013.

He was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Rosewell and Helen Scott Lyman. He was a graduate of McGill University, Montreal, class of ’49 after serving in the Royal Canadian Navy. He married Mary Alice Bowden on February 9,1957.

After attending Harvard Business School, he found his true passion, rare postage stamps. He left Boston to study Philately in France and made it his life’s work, brokering stamps all over the world. He was a member of the American Philatelic Society, as well the Johnson Point Association, Orr’s Island.

He enjoyed sailing, his dogs and was a true family man.

He is survived by his wife Mary Alice of Sleepy Hollow, NY and Orr’s Island; two sons, Mark Lyman of Brooklyn, NY, John Lyman and his wife Nancy of Mt. Kisco, NY; a daughter, Anne Lyman of Brunswick; a sister Gay Bell of Eagle Lake, Ontario; two grandsons Nicolas and Jonathan “Jake” Lyman; two granddaughters Olivia and Abigail Lyman.
