LEBANON — A commercial rider mower sustained more than $14,000 damage when it was struck by a van Sunday afternoon on Carl Broggi Highway near Southern Maine Tool Rental in Lebanon.

Jason Cole, assistant chief of the Lebanon Rescue Department, said the 49-year-old operator of the lawn mower entered the highway by accident and was hit by a westbound Ford Econoline van.

The man was thrown from the mower, which rolled over several times then came to rest in a ditch about 150 feet from where the collision occurred.

Rescue personnel evaluated the man, who refused to be transported to a hospital.

Cole said the van was traveling at 55 mph, the posted speed limit. The 50-year-old van driver and his passenger, a 53-year-old woman, both of Lebanon, were shook up but did not require medical treatment.

Maine State Police are investigating the cause of the accident, which was reported around 1 p.m.
