GEORGETOWN — The Rev. Gerald James Hersom, 80, of Georgetown, died at home on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013. He was born in Easton on Jan. 16, 1933, the oldest son of Burrill and Marion (McKay) Hersom.

The Rev. Hersom earned a Bachelor of Arts from Providence- Barrington Bible College in 1959 and attended a year of Divinity School at Gordon College. He was ordained at Mount Vernon (Maine) Baptist Church in 1960.

The Rev. Hersom pastored many churches throughout Maine, West Virginia and Ohio until his retirement to Georgetown in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Christina Elaine (Stevens) Hersom of Georgetown; three sons, Timothy Hersom of Hampton, Va., Gregory Hersom of Troutman, N.C., and Mathew Hersom of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; two daughters, Beverly Rowan of Franklin, N.J., and Christy Roberts of Greenville, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Larry Hersom of Brewer; and a sister, Joyce Paine of Bangor.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 4-6 p.m. at the David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 1 p.m. at the Five Islands Baptist Church, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made in Gerald’s name to the Five Island Baptist Church, Five Islands Road, Georgetown, ME 04548.
