AUBURN (AP) — Three people have been arrested after sitting down on the railroad tracks in Auburn to protest the transport of crude oil along Maine rail lines.

About 100 environmentalists took part in Wednesday’s protest.

They say the transportation of oil through Maine could lead to a disaster similar to the one in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, last month, when a runaway oil train exploded and caused a fire that killed 47 people.

Police say they arrested Douglas Bowen, 67, of Porter; Meaghan Lasala, 27, of Portland; and Jessica Dowling, 32, of Unity, on criminal trespass charges.
