BRUNSWICK — Faith Linscott of Harpswell and Brunswick died September 17, 2013, at age 98.

She was born in Philadelphia, raised in Annapolis, and graduated from National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C.

She began summering on Orr’s Island at a young age. She spent many summers at the home of her grandfather, Rear Admiral William B. Fletcher, who ran a tight household and expected all the children to sail with him every day on his sailboat “Juanona.” Faith settled in Maine with her first husband, Phippen Sanborn — first in Millinocket and then on Orr’s Island.

Faith was a wonderful knitter and donated numerous items to various charitable causes. She also sewed costumes for the skating shows at Bowdoin College directed by Phippen, and was active at Orr’s Bailey Yacht Club where Phippen served as its first Commodore.

She and Phippen owned “Dog Patch Farm” on Orr’s Island. Faith had a great affinity for animals, and became adept at lambing and raising animals of all kinds, many of which were cared for in her kitchen. Faith was always quick to help with the young children of family members.

She lived many years on Bailey Island with her second husband, Carlton Linscott. In her later years Faith moved to Brunswick and enjoyed 14 years’ assistance from her beloved friend, the late Betty Lewis. Faith resided the past two years at Horizons where she was well cared for by their staff.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Antoinette Fletcher and Malene Dodds.

She is survived by a niece and nephew of New York, and their families, and by the Fletcher family of Orr’s Island and elsewhere. She will be missed by all who have known her hearty laugh and feisty temperament.

A gathering in celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. at Orr’s-Bailey Yacht Club, Osborne Lane, Orr’s Island, on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
