BOWDOIN — Floyd E. Skelton Sr., 80, of Bowdoin, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at the Hospice house at Togus, with his wife by his side. He was born in Bowdoin on July 2, 1933, to Ray and Myrtle (Purrington) Skelton.

He attended schools in Bowdoin and Lisbon Falls. Floyd served in the U.S. Army from 1953- 1955 during the Korean War. He married Sheila Pender on June 8, 1956.

He was self-employed most of his life. He worked early in his life for M.D.O.T., plowed snow for Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and at Blue Rock Ind. in Leeds. In 1972, he bought a tractor and hauled heavy equipment in the 48 states, Canada and Mexico for 15 years. He retired from Precast of Topsham in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing and camping on Moosehead Lake for years. He also enjoyed hunting and had been on 4 successful moose hunts with his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed his Friday morning coffees at Topsham’s McDonald’s with his friends. He always had a large pile of firewood on his side lawn for the winter.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sheila; 3 sons: Floyd Skelton Jr. and wife Wilena, Perry Skelton, Rodney Skelton and wife Linda, all of Bowdoin; 5 grandchildren: Floyd III and wife Rachel of Dresden, Heather Skelton of Bowdoin, Neil and girlfriend Joy, Nathan and Seth Skelton from Bowdoin. He also leaves 2 great-grandchildren: Chyra Nicole and Floyd Skelton IV from Dresden and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents and sons Leslie Howard and Richard Alan.

A special thank you to his grandson Nathan, who stopped every day during his illness to be with him, helping him and doing odd jobs. Floyd will be missed by many.

Visitation will be held at the Crosman Funeral Home on Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Sunday at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Those wishing may make donations in Floyd’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland, ME 04102.
