HOULTON (AP) — A 76- year-old northern Maine pawn shop owner is going on trial for murder for allegedly killing a woman in 1998 whose body has never been found.

George Jaime Sr. of Presque Isle goes on trial today in Houlton in the death of 38-year-old Starlett “Star” Vining, who was in a relationship with Jaime when she was last seen. Jury selection was last week.

Jaime’s been held without bail since his arrest last year.

Police say Vining worked at a grocery store in Presque Isle in October 1998 when she simply stopped coming to work, not even to pick up her paycheck. Family members didn’t officially report her as missing until 2006, saying she was known to often relocate and sometimes be out of touch for years at a time.
