BRUNSWICK — Honor Elizabeth “Bette” Bugler, 87, of Brunswick, passed away on Nov. 22, 2013, at home, surrounded by family.

Bette was born in Waterville on May 23, 1926, the daughter of Walter and Gertrude Day. She graduated from Coburn Classical Institute, and continued her education at Fisher College and Colby College.

She married Derek Bugler in 1948. Together they raised two sons and shared 65 years of life and love.

Bette began a career in radio broadcasting at WTVL, and was a member of the Maine Press and Radio Women. In 1961, she became WCBB television’s first program director. She was later employed at the National Council of Churches in New York City, the Maine Maritime Museum, and Bath Iron Works.

Bette was actively involved at Grace Episcopal Church and in the community. She volunteered at Mid Coast Hospital until last year.

Bette is survived by her husband, Rev. Derek Bugler; two sons, Ian Bugler and Carol Rush of Topsham, and Peter and Jennifer Bugler of Moore, Okla.; a much loved daughter-inlaw, Judith Bugler of Topsham; a brother, Sanderson Day of Oakland; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Grace Episcopal Church in Bath. Contributions in her memory may be made to Grace Episcopal Church.
