MEXICO CITY — The game between the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves was postponed Wednesday night because of smoky conditions inside the Mexico City arena.

The game will be made up in Minnesota at a later date.

The arena was evacuated about 45 minutes before the scheduled 9:30 p.m. tipoff when a generator malfunction outside the arena sent smoke pouring into the building.

About 15 minutes after the scheduled start, the Spurs’ bus pulled away from the building. The Timberwolves’ bus followed soon after.

While the teams were warming up for their regular-season matchup, lights went out in parts of the arena and smoke began pouring out of vents in the upper deck.

CAVALIERS 98, NUGGETS 88: Kyrie Irving scored 23 points and Cleveland won at home to snap Denver’s seven-game winning streak.

Tristan Thompson had a career-high 21 rebounds and 17 points for the Cavaliers, who won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

The Nuggets were playing the third game of six-game trip and lost for the first time since Nov. 18. The trip began with a 14-point win in Toronto on Sunday and a 24-point victory in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

MAVERICKS 100, PELICANS 97: Dirk Nowitzki scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and Dallas won at New Orleans.

Nowitzki gave Dallas the lead with a free throw to make the score 98-97 with 32.3 seconds left. He then got a piece of Eric Gordon’s driving floater, grabbed the rebound and hit two more free throws with eight seconds left.

Ryan Anderson of the Pelicans missed an open 3-pointer that would have tied it with two seconds left.

SUNS 98, ROCKETS 88: Eric Bledsoe had 20 points and seven assists as Phoenix won at Houston to snap a two-game losing streak.

P.J. Tucker added 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting with six rebounds.

PISTONS 105, BUCKS 98: Andre Drummond had 24 points and 19 rebounds, and Detroit rode a strong second half to win at Milwaukee.

HAWKS 107, CLIPPERS 97: Kyle Korver scored a season-high 23 points and tied the NBA record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer as Atlanta won at home.

Paul Millsap finished with 25 points and Al Horford added 21 to help the Hawks snap a two-game losing streak.

PACERS 95, JAZZ 86: Paul George scored 19 points as Indiana won at Salt Lake City.

Lance Stephenson scored 15 points, Luis Scola had 14 and Roy Hibbert added 13 points as Indiana won at Utah for the first time since an 84-60 victory on Nov. 29, 2005.

NOTES

BUCKS: Police cited center Larry Sanders for disorderly conduct and assault and battery in a fight last month at a downtown Milwaukee nightclub.

The two charges are municipal citations. The Milwaukee County district attorney’s office said it has no plans to issue criminal charges against Sanders.

HAWKS: Atlanta assigned rookie guard Dennis Schroder to the Bakersfield Jam of the D-League.

Schroder, from Braunschweig, Germany, was the 17th overall pick in this year’s NBA draft. He was averaging 3.7 points and 2.5 assists in 11 games. He was tied for fourth among NBA rookies in assists but struggled for playing time behind starting point guard Jeff Teague and backup Shelvin Mack.
