FREEPORT — William A. Leeman (Bill), 82, of Freeport, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was one of 11 children of Hollis and Ruth (Hayward) Leeman.

Growing up in a very large family during the ’30s and ’40s gave Bill and his siblings some amazing work ethics. He kept busy every minute of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for many years at Harry Crooker & Sons and Bath Iron Works running heavy equipment. Following his retirement he worked at Concrete Craftsmen working on small engines. He also had a small lawn mower business at his home in Freeport.

During his lifetime, Pops, (as he was lovingly called), and especially after retirement did all the things he loved. Fishing, hunting, four wheeling, snowmobiling and family get-togethers were some of his favorites. He loved the time he got to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to breakfast with his buddies. They would open the Fairground Café where he made many more friends.

He was a longtime member of the Freeport Lodge #23 A.F.&A.M., Order of Eastern Star of Freeport, Valley of Portland, Cumberland/ Mt. Vernon Chapter 1, Kora Temple of Shriners AAONMS, SAM and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Diantha (Strout) Leeman; a son, William W. Leeman and his wife Rebecca of Bath; daughters, Patricia and her husband Brett Carter of North Monmouth, Pamela and her husband Steve Varney of North Monmouth; stepchildren Stephen Prescott of Windham, Kimberly Prescott of Topsham and Angela Prescott of Freeport. He is also survived by a brother Edward Leeman of Bingham; sisters, Arlene Grover of Topsham, Margaret Hodgdon of Wiscasset, Esther and her husband John Hauck of Woolwich, Mary and her husband Bob King of Woolwich; six grandchildren, 7 1/2 greatgrandchildren and a special family friend Debra of Topsham.

A memorial service with military honors and a Masonic service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road, Pownal, ME with Reverend John Wentworth officiating. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114 or to the First Parish Congregational Church, 422 Hallowell Road, Pownal, ME 04069.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick.
