WINDHAM – Police said a Windham man, who was experiencing mental-health issues, attacked his father with a stick and knife before assaulting a paramedic and an emergency room nurse Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Jim Boudreau of the Windham Police Department said the father called police just before noon to report that he had been attacked by his adult son.

The father fled the home and locked himself in a vehicle until police arrived. Officers used force to remove a barricade to the entrance of the Highland Cliff Road home.

Police were able to subdue the subject but he attacked a paramedic when he was placed inside the ambulance. When he arrived at the Maine Medical Center emergency room, he attacked and punched a nurse in the face, police say.

The man has not been charged and the investigation is ongoing.
